Consultant in Upper Gastrointestinal and Weight Loss Surgery
Mr Osborne is a Member of British Obesity & Metabolic Surgery Society, Association of Upper GI Surgeons and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. Having worked in two International Centres of Excellence in Upper GI Surgery he provides a specialist service in this field.
Mr Osborne provides outstanding care in the following procedures:
Weight loss surgery
Laparoscopic and Robotic Gastric Bypass, Sleeve Gastrectomy, Gastric Banding and Gastric Balloons including the Allurion System. He is also an experienced surgeon in complex revisional (re-do) bariatric surgery.
Only experienced, fully trained Bariatric Surgeons should perform weight loss surgery. Together with Mr Hewes they have an expert team in Bristol and an interest in safety in the operating theatre and excellence in outcomes. They regularly supervise other surgeons and run training courses for teams from other hospitals. The team are actively involved in the expanding research portfolio at North Bristol NHS Trust. We are a recruiting centre for the largest surgical randomised controlled trial in Bariatric Surgery (By-Band-Sleeve). Outside work most of his time is spent with his family.

Mr Osborne is Clinical Lead for the department of upper Gastrointestinal Surgery at North Bristol NHS Trust. He was the first Hunterian Professor in weight loss surgery awarded in 2012 by the Royal College of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland.
Mr Osborne was brought up in Somerset before qualifying from Nottingham University Medical School. He has trained and worked in two International Centres of Excellence for Obesity and Weight loss Surgery. From an Honorary Lectureship at Bristol University to representing the University of Bristol as the Unit Co-ordinator for senior surgery (for the medical students at North Bristol NHS Trust) he has maintained his academic work. He developed and started the annual national training day for bariatric surgeons to help train other consultants and their teams with BOMSS. He continues to improve services within local hospitals as well as working at a national level in the management of our specialist societies.
